Best options for Home Antivirus

Here at Omega, we are always preaching security to our clients. Whether it’s Antivirus or firewall or Malware protection, you need to protect your data and your applications from foreign and unwanted cyber-attacks. If you happen to have an IT managed service provider like Omega, then you can rest easy because we take online security seriously and make a point to protect our clients and their network.
All our clients Firewall are protected by Dell SonicWall and we’ve never had an issue with one of our clients’ network being compromised due to an unwanted attack. SonicWall provides our clients with 24/7 up to date coverage, daily updates and patches and gives us the ability as Admins to have full control over their network should a security risk arise. Our customers know that regardless of threat level, we have the experience and the tools within SonicWall to make sure their network is never compromised and their data is never vulnerable. Similarly, we use ESET for our Antivirus to keep each workstation secure from 3rd party attacks and unwanted phishing applications. ESET provides us with option to push daily updates to each workstation and to manage the whole group of workstations to ensure they are protected 24/7.
Online protection is something that has to be taken seriously within the home network as well. If you have a pc or a laptop at home, then you have to take responsibility to protect those machines because more than ever, cyber-attacks on a private network are on the rise. While SonicWall and ESET are applications and hardware that we recommend, it’s not something that is financially feasible in a home environment. That’s why we’ve made some recommendations below for the private, home network. Remember, this isn’t something that we would recommend in a corporate environment because it doesn’t provide all the admin rights and applications that you would get from a more comprehensive solution like SonicWall and ESET but as a home solution, the following recommendations will serve you well.

Avast Free Antivirus

– Avast is a pretty solid free option for providing Antivirus in a home network. It’s constantly updated, and as long as you have some basic PC knowledge, you should be able to set up Avast to protect your home network from any outside attacks.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

– Malwarebytes has been around for a while and it’s a really helpful tool to run from time to time to track what malware applications you might have accidently downloaded on your home machine. Malwarebytes will go searching into your registry and application library and track any unwanted malwares and diagnose and remove those unwanted applications.

Keep in mind that these 2 options are both free and recommended for the home. If you are looking for a more Enterprise option that protects you 24/7 with Admins watching over your network to ensure security, then give us a call and we would be happy to provide a free assessment on your network.
