Adath Israel Congregation has relied on Omega Network Solutions for managed IT services since September 2025. In less than a year, Omega has taken over a network that hadn’t been properly maintained in a long time, resolved recurring livestream outages, and rebuilt the kind of trust the congregation had stopped expecting from an IT provider. Here’s how the switch happened and what changed for the team at Adath Israel.

The Challenge: An IT Provider That Wasn’t Showing Up

Before Omega, Adath Israel’s previous provider had been in place for five or six years, and the relationship had worn thin. Executive Director Michael Cohen, who came to the congregation after a career in public education, described a pattern of slow response times, limited problem-solving, and little forward planning. The network hadn’t been properly maintained in years, and workstations were running Windows 10, approaching its end-of-life date, without any proactive conversation from the outgoing provider about what that meant.

For an organization that runs on a lean internal team and depends on its technology working without hand-holding, that lack of communication was the breaking point. Cohen wasn’t nervous about switching. He was ready.

The Transition: A Switch Timed Around the Busiest Weeks of the Year

Adath Israel’s transition to Omega landed just before the High Holy Days, the two-to-four-week stretch that Cohen calls the congregation’s busiest period of the year. That timing raised the stakes on a clean handover, since any disruption during those weeks would be felt immediately by the community.

Omega’s team, Owner Goran Jovanovic, the Account Lead, and the assigned Support Technician, worked closely with Cohen’s team going into the transition. When planned maintenance windows were needed, Omega communicated them ahead of time so Cohen could tell the congregation what to expect rather than let them discover an outage on their own. That communication meant the switch happened with no unplanned downtime, even during the congregation’s highest-stakes weeks.

The Solution: Cleaning Up and Modernizing a Long-Neglected Network

Once onboarded, Omega’s team ran a full assessment of Adath Israel’s environment, one that surfaced issues the congregation didn’t know it had. That included asking basic questions the previous provider never had, like why the organization still maintained an on-site server at all.

That question opened a broader conversation Omega is still working through with the congregation: whether Adath Israel needs to keep its physical server, purchased in early 2025 and running software that reaches end-of-life in January 2027, or whether it makes more sense to shift core file storage and collaboration to Microsoft SharePoint. Adath Israel already has SharePoint in place but hasn’t adopted it fully. That decision is still being worked through, with a final call expected once the High Holy Days wrap up.

Omega also identified and began addressing the workstations still running Windows 10. Today, every active workstation has been fully upgraded.

Reliability: Fixing the Livestream and Internet Failover

Adath Israel streams its services online, a feature that matters most during the High Holy Days and for members observing bereavement rituals who can’t attend in person. Before Omega, that livestream went down often enough to be a recurring concern, and while some of the instability traced back to the local internet provider rather than the previous MSP, Cohen also had two separate internet connections with a failover between them that wasn’t actually working.

Since Omega took over, livestream outages have dropped significantly, and when issues do arise, Omega has been proactive in troubleshooting them, even when the root cause lies outside their direct scope. Automatic failover between Adath Israel’s two internet connections is now enabled and configured.

The Result: Building Trust Through Communication

For Cohen, the real difference between Omega and the previous provider isn’t a single technical fix. It’s communication. He described Omega’s approach as proactive rather than reactive: issues get raised and addressed before they become bigger problems, rather than after.

Monthly meetings with Omega have played a role in that shift, giving both sides a standing forum to review what’s working and flag what isn’t. Cohen also pointed to a specific pattern that stood out to him: when Omega’s team makes a change to fix an underlying issue, they explain why before doing the work, not after. That transparency, combined with consistent follow-through on commitments, has rebuilt a level of trust Cohen didn’t expect to have with an IT provider again.

“Omega has been a pleasure to work with,” says Michael Cohen, Executive Director, Adath Israel Congregation. “We have no regrets making the change, and we only look forward to their support going forward. They get the job done, and we’ve never once felt like we’re being taken advantage of on cost.”
